Why No Subsidy? If you do not want a subsidy, or make too much money to qualify for a subsidy, you can shop for health insurance Off Exchange (in the private market). In Nevada we have HMO, EPO and PPO health insurance plan options available to enroll into. When you buy a health insurance plan in the private market, you don’t need to disclose your income or worry about updating your account throughout the year. You set it and forget it. In addition, the prices “OFF Exchange” are often less expensive than “ON Exchange”. These plans are Qualified Health Plans that contain the 10 Essential Health Benefits that cover pre-existing conditions, no matter what the condition is.
Qualifying for a Government SUBSIDY (Financial Assistance). If you qualify for a Health Insurance Subsidy (financial assistance), it’s kind of like getting a gift card from the Government to help you pay your health insurance premium. This “subsidy” is sent directly to the insurance company, which pays a portion of your premium, and you will be responsible to pay the remaining balance. The only way to get a subsidy is to get a health insurance plan through Nevada Health Link (we will walk you through this). Be careful not to get TOO MUCH subsidy. At the end of the year, the IRS will adjust what you’ve received, and what you should have received, and if you ended up getting too much subsidy, you’ll have to pay it back. If you didn’t get enough subsidy, you’ll get it back on your tax return. If your income goes up or down, or you had changes to your family, you need to notify us immediately so we can make the necessary changes. We can help you with this. Open Enrollment begins November 1st and runs through January 15th.
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that pays for a variety of health care expenses. It’s administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). Medicare is health insurance for Americans 65 or older (or under 65 years old with specific disabilities) or anyone at any age with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Medicare Advantage, “Part C” plans are offered by private insurance companies. Some plans have a zero $0 premium, some of them have a small premium. If you enroll into a Medicare Advantage Plan (during an enrollment period) you still have Medicare, it’s just that your medical claims will be paid by the private insurance company instead of Medicare.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) is Private Health Insurance. 1). You can choose your own doctors and hospitals (that accept Medicare) without worrying about “Networks” or “Referrals” anywhere in the country. 2). With a Medicare Supplement Plan F, you won’t have co-pays or deductibles. You only have your premium to worry about each month, keeping your medical expenses predictable. No surprises with medical expenses. 3). You can purchase a Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) ANY time of the year (see below for details). 4). Insurance companies can charge different rates for the exact same plan. 5). Medigap plans generally require a separately purchased drug plan.

Dental Insurance is designed to pay a portion of the costs associated with dental care and works in much the same way that medical insurance works. For a specific monthly premium, you are entitled to certain dental benefits. These benefits usually include regular checkups, cleanings, x-rays and certain services required to promote general dental health. Some plans will provide more coverage than others and some will require a greater financial contribution on your part when services are provided. Vision Insurance is typically a supplemental insurance to other types of medical insurance policies. Vision insurance will help offset the costs of routine checkups as well as help pay for prescription glasses or contact lenses. Some plans also offer discounts on corrective surgery such as LASIK.
Short Term Health Insurance is usually purchased for short periods when waiting for a regular major medical insurance policy to begin. Sometimes Individuals and Families will use short term policies instead of getting a regular major medical policy. Short Term Insurance many times is used in between semesters for College students, in between jobs after you’ve quit a job and waiting for your benefits to begin at your new job. Athletes will use short term policies to cover sport seasons.
Group Health Insurance coverage is a health insurance policy that is purchased by an employer and is offered to employees (and typically to the employees’ family members) as a benefit of working for that company. It is usually part of a comprehensive benefits packages that employers provide for employees.
